School Closing Policy
A number of procedures are in place in order to ensure that families receive accurate information about school closing due to inclement weather. We understand that our decision to open or close school in bad weather has a significant effect on families. Therefore, we would like to remind all parents that once we know about a change in school opening, the primary source of communication is the school website. Please refer to the information below for helpful reminders about school closing.
As per the DU policy listed in the student handbook, school closing will be communicated no later than 6:00 AM the day of closing. IF THERE IS NO UPDATE on below mentioned primary sources of communication by 6:00 AM, then Daarul Uloom is IN SESSION. Again, we will do our best, InshaAllah, to communicate as early as possible the school closing information, possibly the night before or early on the school morning.
Primary sources of school closing information in this order:
1. School Website (www.dupeoria.org)
2. School Email through parents list
3. Facebook
Note: Make sure you update the email ids at the DU office in case if you are not receiving any DU emails.

Absence and Illness Policy
If your child will not be in attendance due to illness or any other reason, please notify your child’s teacher as well as the office by 9AM. To report an absence, parents should either call the school at 309-691-9089 or send an email to du@dupeoria.org as soon as possible. If the office has not received notification of your child’s absence, a call will be placed and/or email will be sent to parents to confirm the absence. Any unconfirmed absence will remain unexcused. As a reminder, if your child is ill, please keep them home.
Keep Children Home For:
· Fever greater than or equal to 100.5 degrees Fahrenheit: Children must stay home 24 hours after fever subsides. They are not to be given fever-reducing medication and sent to school. Your child will expose other students to the sickness as well.
· Heavy drainage (clear or discolored) from the mouth, nose, eyes, or ears
· Red discoloration to the whites of the eye(s)
· Skin rashes of any kind which have not been diagnosed by a doctor
· Severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or diarrhea during the previous night.
· A painful, red throat, even if fever is not present.
· A deep, hacking cough
· Lice or nits: Any student found to have either lice or nits will be asked to remain out of school for a minimum of 2 days or until lice or nit free after applying the treatment. Upon returning to school, students will be rechecked determining that they are nit free by the administration.
· Any other communicable disease not listed
· If a student becomes sick during the day, the office staff will contact the parent to pick up the child.

Flu and Cold Policy
The peak of the cold and flu season is here. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines:
Consider keeping your child at home for an extra day of rest and observation if he or she has any of the following symptoms:
· Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough
· Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
· Headache
· Mild stomach ache
Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:
· Fever (greater than 100 degrees by mount and your child may return to school only after his or her temperature has been consistently below 100 degrees, by mouth, for a minimum of 24 hours)
· Vomiting (even once)
· Diarrhea
· Chills
· General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches
· Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough
· Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose
To help prevent the flu and other colds, teach your children good hygiene habits:
· Wash hands frequently
· Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth
· Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
· Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Colds are the most contagious during the first 48 hours. A child who has a fever should remain at home until "fever free" for a minimum of 24 hours. A child who has started antibiotics needs to be on the medication for 48 hours before considered non-contagious and able to return to school. Often when a child awakens with vague complaints (the way colds an flu begin) it is wise to observe your child at home for an hour or two before deciding whether or not to bring to school. Your child should be physically able to participate in all school activities on return to school. Keeping a sick child at home will minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom.
Thank you in advance for helping make this year at school as healthy as possible.
